“Bwakaw” is a 2012 Philippine comedy-drama film directed by Jun Robles Lana. The movie stars Eddie Garcia as Rene, a lonely gay man in his seventies who finds companionship in a stray dog named Bwakaw. The film explores themes of aging, loneliness, and unexpected friendship.
Rene, who came out of the closet at age 60, believes it’s too late for love and is simply waiting for death. His only companion is Bwakaw, but when the dog falls ill, Rene’s life takes an unexpected turn as he tries to save his beloved pet.
The film received critical acclaim and was the Philippines’ entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards. It also won several awards at international film festivals.
